You can’t reinvent the wheel, but you can reinvent the screw. And that’s exactly what the engineers from Ennepetal did in 1967: instead of the usual wood screw with a simple slot, they opted for a completely newly shaped and particularly sharp-edged chipboard screw with a cross-shaped notch. An innovation that revolutionized the market. It was the birth of SPAX. It is no coincidence that this idea became reality in tranquil South Westphalia. The fastening experts at ALTENLOH, BRINCK & CO had already started industrial screw production there in 1823 and subsequently worked persistently on optimizing their production processes. Success came quickly: Just six years after the company was founded, the fasteners from the German plants were also supplied abroad. The company abbreviation ABC had long since become a symbol of the highest quality. The company ALTENLOH, BRINCK & CO. is still managed by the founders‘ descendants today. In many places, the name SPAX and the iconic green box are synonymous with wood screws – always proof of a highly relevant and innovative product. This plays an important role in the continuous further development of SPAX. While the first-generation SPAX screw was a world first, the subsequent models launched in 1989 and 2005 reflect the company’s constant striving for the best solutions. SPAX is still regarded today as a top-class high-tech screw „made in Germany“ with global effectiveness. The main customers for SPAX products include DIY enthusiasts who purchase them from specialist retailers and DIY stores, as well as the construction and furniture industries worldwide.
