As a division with over 30 locations and around 2,800 employees in 12 countries, HBPO is one of the world’s leading automotive suppliers as part of the Plastic Omnium Group. The start of this success story was in 1992, when the first completely developed front-end modules for the VW Golf A3 were assembled. This division of Hella was eventually spun off. The Behr company was added in 1999. In 2004, the last major step was taken with the participation of Plastic Omnium as the third shareholder and the founding of HBPO GmbH. In 2022, the French Plastic Omnium Group finally acquired 100% of HBPO.

HBPO is the only company in the world to specialize in the development, assembly and logistics of complex front-end modules. With almost 6.5 million front-ends produced annually, HBPO is the global market leader in this field. Its customers include almost all well-known car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai and Mini. HBPO is also a competent partner for car manufacturers for future topics such as lightweight construction, CO₂ reduction and aerodynamic improvements.

All deliveries are made using the so-called just-in-sequence process. This means that the right front-end is delivered to the car manufacturer’s assembly line at the right time and in the right sequence. This poses a particular challenge for HBPO’s logistics, as the front-end modules sometimes have to be at the customer’s premises four hours after the order is received. This is why HBPO’s assembly facilities are always located close to the car manufacturers.

HBPO – headquartered in Lippstadt – currently has eight development sites and 32 production facilities in Asia, North America and Europe. Whether module solutions and components for alternative drives or smart vehicles – HBPO is consistently pursuing new paths towards sustainable mobility.
